How To Cook Katogo (Matooke and Beans)

Ingredients

  • matooke
  • beans
  • cooking oil
  • ghee (omuzigo omuganda )
  • tomatoes
  • onions
  • water
  • salt

STEPS TO FOLLOW – Our Local Method.

  • Wash your already sorted beans
  • put them in a clean saucepan
  • add water to the beans
  • put your saucepan with beans on a lit charcoal stove and cook untill the beans are ready
  • as your cooking the beans peel your matooke
  • put a clean saucepan on a lit charcoal stove
  • add cooking oil to the saucepan and wait untill its ready
  • add chopped tomatoes and onions to the saucepan and stir
  • add salt to the saucepan and stir till tomatoes are ready
  • add a water to the saucepan
  • put some of your peeled matooke to the saucepan and then add some of your cooked beans to the saucepan
  • add salt to the saucepan
  • add the remaining matooke to the saucepan
  • add the remaining cooked beans to the saucepan and evenly spread them
  • add soup to the saucepan
  • add ginger, cotmeal and garlic paste to the saucepan
  • cover using a banana leaf and a cover and leave the katogo to boil for about 2-3 minutes and romove the cover
  • extend the banana leaf at one side of the saucepan
  • add ghee (omuzigo omuganda ) to the saucepan
  • put back the banana leaf and cook again for about 3-5 minutes and then remove the cover
  • katogo is ready then serve.
